Saks4Eve Stories in 2022

Reading Time: 6 minutes

Warriors, wing men, wall walkers, cycling, climbing, cakes, treats and quiz Qs – our Saks4Eve fundraising’s back in 2022. We’re thrilled to be reporting on fundraising antics from our salons and generous contributions from our customers for our national charity partner, The Eve Appeal.

ABOUT EVE

The Eve Appeal is the leading UK national charity funding research and raising awareness into the five gynaecological cancers – womb, ovarian, cervical, vulval and vaginal. The world-leading research that The Eve Appeal funds is ambitious and challenging but their vision is simple: A future where gynaecological cancers are a disease of the past. Yes. To. That.

At time of writing we’ve contributed £199,079.57 *meaning* if we raise £921 we’ll top £200k by the end of ’22.

TOTAL WARRIORS AT SEDBURY HALL

A Total Warrior challenge, you say? Make that a Total Saks4Eve Warrior Challenge and Saks Sedbury Hall is there for 12k and 24 hair-raising obstacles! Salon owner Anna says “We had THE BEST day… working as a team is what we do! It was a super-tough challenge but we nailed it – so proud. £1,303 raised on this one challenge.”

Interesting take on a mud facial there, Sue!

WING MEN

About our two *crazy* salon owners Lee at Saks Ripon and John at Saks Skipton who’ve raised £4,338. Take it away you two…

John says: “I blame Lee. He rang me with this fundraising idea – I was a bit tipsy at the time so I said yes! Way out of my comfort zone but for a great cause. The experience was nerve racking, but a tick off the bucket list! It was a real talking point in the salon, the customers thought it was out of the ordinary and the team just thought I was nuts. Cheers Lee – an amazing experience!”

Lee says; “Phenomenal! Whilst climbing onto the wing to be harnessed, the pilot asked if we wanted to experience the ‘roller coaster’, OK why not! We climbed almost vertical to 800 ft then experienced weightlessness as the plane plummeted to the ground at140 mph (with face contortions and chin wobbles).

“The work of medical teams is amazing and the research from The Eve Appeal is essential. As hairdressers we’re often one of the next calls for advice to help cope with hair loss, with wig and styling advice and how hair will grow back. We love that we’re able to help on different levels – very proud of what we do.”

A WALK TO REMEMBER

Saks Guisborough and Saks HQ completing a Walk To Remember with team-Eve – trekking 26 miles along Hadrian’s Wall and raising £2,000. Team talk re life on the wall…

Alice: “Doing the Great North Run as part of our fundraising was the easy bit. The walk was lots of laughing, hills, achy and d) then very tough! We ran out of sweets and energy to talk! Crossing the finish line was the best feeling. I’d do it all over again. Maybe not too soon though!”

Sarah: “Ok, so we met a 5.30am – dark and chilly – but I knew we were in for a great day. We climbed, we suffered sore knees and we met real Romans! And big thanks to the American couple we met who donated online. And when they were up they were up… and when they were down they were down… we did good.”

Jo: “An incredible day. Brutal in parts but the most stunning scenery and fantastic people. Thinking about the reason we were doing it, raising vital funds for research, really did keep me going when it got tough. A day I’ll never forget”

Claire: “I just thought it’s walking, how hard could it be? WRONG! Turns out the hardest thing I’ve ever done but I did my big with the best people – thanks to everyone for keeping me going.”

Janet: “A dodgy hotel (think The Shining), little sleep, weather of every type, pockets full of sweets, aches, pains and blisters and over 10 hours of pretty much non-stop walking = a 26-mile trek done. What an achievement Team Saks4Eve!”

THE KINGS HILL QUIZ

High five to Saks Kings Hill for putting on another fab quiz night in the summer. Salon manager Nikala says “Pre-event our customers were totally up for raising awareness with GetLippy pix showcasing their hair and beauty and pouting and shouting for our cause. We had amazing prizes donated to our raffle from very generous brands and local businesses including a family photoshoot!”

“On the night Natasha captivated the audience with challenging and hilarious questions. The winning team – with our salon owner Claire – all bagging bubbly for their efforts. We’re so proud of what we can achieve when we call get together for our cause and we raised £965 this time!”

JESS AND MUM AT SAKS BARNEY

About Jess at Saks Barnard Castle – a champion of our cause since day one. A big shout this time to Jess for her Saks4Eve Sunday, treating customers on Mothers’ Day and raising £650 with help from mum, Debbie!

Debbie says: “Jess has amazing tenacity and determination. I’d like to put this down to her being my daughter, but she overtook me when she first got involved in fundraising for Eve. She organised a fabulous Ball and most recently this event in the salon, with cupcakes, fizz and raffle prizes sourced from Barney businesses. It was such a positive atmosphere on the day.

“I was Jess’s assistant – a job and a half let me tell you! I felt prouder than ever of My Girl. I knew that she has built great bonds with her customers but seeing it on the day – my heart was bursting. She loves her job and loves helping to make a difference. And I love her. I’m her mum and quite often we’re great friends too!

Love this. Fancy joining the Saks Barney team, Debbie?

DINA’S 30 DAYS CYCLE CHALLENGE

Dina, our salon owner at Saks Ashton decided to cycle 710km in 30 days and once she started, she couldn’t stop – exceeding her goal by an extra 13.9 km… and raising £1,043 for our cause!

ESTELLE AT SNOWDONIA

Did *very* bad weather stop Estelle at Saks Knutsford from downing her scissors and trekking up Ben Nevis to raise £325? Most certainly NOT!

Estelle says “I chose Ben Nevis as lots of my customers are walkers and hikers and they knew it was out of my comfort zone. It sure was. The weather was horrendous – our guide said it was some of the worst he’d seen. But we just kept going and it felt brilliant to get to the top! We also raffled an amazing hamper full of hair goodies.”
