PARIS HAUTE COUTURE WEEK

Tamara Ralph – Luke Pluckrose assisted by Danielle of Saks Chester and Shannon of Saks Hexham.

Tamara Ralph showcased in the sumptuous setting of the grand salon at the Shangri-La hotel with the collection fusing feminine strength with a bold side in an array of ethereal fabrics and armour-like structures. And whenever our creative director’s called on to intepret hair looks at the shows there’s usually a Saks stylist or two assisting!

Just. So. Luke at work

Luke says: “If you’re wanting session styling gigs, you often have to shuffle work and life to make it happen. You need to be organised and bring your kit. Make sure you understand the brief for hair and keep your cool because it will get hectic. And always be a proper team player.

“It’s an eye opener – what goes into putting on a major fashion show. So many people working together to interpret the designer’s vision and create something totally unique. There’s no feeling like it.”

Shannon says: “Working with Luke in Paris was one of the best bits in my hair career so far. And working with Danielle was a hoot, as always. The brief was elegant. Low buns, twisted to replicate the shape of a rose. Roses featured a lot in the finer details of the show. The location, hair, makeup and – of course – the collection were all absolutely stunning! It was amazing to take part – thank you Luke and Saks HQ for these opportunities.”

Jodie says: “I learnt so much over the two days at GFW with hair ranging from creative updos to slick back partings and everything in between. I loved the rush of being backstage. It sparked my creativity and I’m excited to explore more looks and see what’s next!”

Head shots, good to go

Emma: “Held at the Truman Brewery on Brick Lane, the vibe was insane. A priceless experience – working as a team with other stylists and models from all over the world – unbeatable.”

Danielle says: “We were working with 27 models and we all got stuck in after being briefed. We had low neck buns with ponytails split in half to create a knotted look. And a lived in natural look with the front section curled slightly but very loose.

“We hydrated textured hair with L’Oréal Pro’s Curl Expression which I loved working with. It was a really hot day but it was such a buzz. I’m now recognising models and the creatives with the more shows I get to do, and it’s great to see everyone again.”

“And me and Emma finished off with a cheeky drink and catchup whilst waiting for our trains home. We were Saks A-Team buddies on the 2022 training programe.”

Cheers – and quite right too!

LONDON FASHION WEEK

Simone Rocha SS 2024 – Danielle of Saks Chester for L’Oréal  Professionnel Portfolio team.

In the pared back rehearsal space at the English National Ballet in Canning Town, Simone Rocha showcased a collection loosely inspired by the rituals and decorations of traditional white weddings, featuring puff ball silhouettes, tulle, ribbons and roses embedded into sheer boned gowns.

Danielle was thrilled to be asked to be part of the L’Oréal Pro team, headed up by Simone Rocha’s lead stylist, Cyndia Harvey. Danielle says: “What a year. After Minju Kim at the V&A and PFW with Luke I then got the opportunity to go out for Saks on my own. And fulfilled a lifelong dream, being part of LFW. I absolutely love Simone Rocha as well! For hair our brief was to create a soft S shaped curl with straighteners and spray lightly with L’Oréal Pro Tecni.Art Pli for a dewy ‘been out in the rain’ finish.

Simone Rocha’s stellar looks

“I learnt so much from other team members – braiding textured hair, cutting short textured hair and setting it using tape and a diffuser pouch to press it into shape – all sorts of tricks of the trade!”

Saks Pro gigs well played our fab four. And Luke of course!
