Fashion in Motion is a series of exciting live events presented at the V&A. We’ve been loving this longtime as our mates at L’Oréal Professionnel ask us to field creative stylists to join the backstage hair teams for the designers’ shows.

This time it’s a big Saks shout for Danielle of Saks Chester and Shannon of Saks Hexham for representing Saks as part of the hair team led by Andrea Daley for Korean designer Minju Kim’s show. This amazing opportunity being hot on the heels of them both completing our year-long Saks A-Team creative training programme in 2022.

This being as Saks Chester is named finalist in Salon Team of the Year and Shannon as Salon Manager of the Year in the British Hairdressing Business Awards 2023. Two salons nailing it for creativity *and* hair biz know-how right here!

Korean braids at Minju Kim Fashion in Motion show

Innovative designer and winner of Netflix’s Next in Fashion, Minju Kim showcased looks from the Bari collection, inspired by the Korean folk tale of a goddess known for her beauty and grace. With intricate patterns and silhouettes capturing Korean tradition alongside more modern design elements, the pieces expressed her unconventional and innovative design approach. The hair had to live up to the goddess!

‘Stylist to salon owner’ Shannon at Hexham on the hair looks: “Backstage was a hive of activity. The hair brief was Korean knots and twists. No two looks were the same! We added black and white flowers between outfit changes and learnt so much on the job – rope twists and hidden braids to hold the flowers in place. The clothes were amazing, the atmosphere electric in the Raphael Gallery, complete with  a 14th century alter – very dramatic!”

Danielle, principal stylist at Chester says: “I qualified as a hairdresser at 19, had a couple of career breaks whilst having my boys – Luke 20 and Teige 14 – and I’ve been at Saks Chester for four years now. It’s amazing that with Saks I’m able to achieve my all-time career goals working in fashion. Getting on the Saks A-Team programme taught me loads and got me a lot closer to session styling and photoshoots as well.”

Shan and Dan behind the scenes

Shannon adds: “Another unreal opportunity! I was also part of the team for Harris Reed in 2022 so I couldn’t wait to do it all again. It was brilliant to work with hair team lead Andrea Daley and get to know other stylists from around the country. We do love a good collaboration at Saks!”

Danielle: “Our customers, salon team and my family and friends all see the creative passion I have and want me to go for it. They always ask what I’m up to next and love to see the content on our socials. Massive thanks to my salon owner Nikki Hughes for encouraging me to push my boundaries. Here’s to many more!”
