The L’Oréal Colour Trophy Grand Final 2023 was fantastic – yet again. Our Saks Skipton hair salon owner John Goddard made it through as a grand finalist, and gave us the bob of dreams…

We caught up with John for the lowdown on his final look and his thoughts on Saks’ creative director Luke Pluckrose’ ‘Limitless’ show, where he showcased the endless possibilities of hairdressing. Oh, and all the backstage gossip, naturally…

So, you’re a L’Oréal Colour Trophy finalist, how do you feel about that?

Getting through to the L’Oréal Colour Trophy 2023 was such an exciting and fun experience. This prestigious competition showcases the best talents in the industry, offering a platform to showcase creativity and technical prowess. Participating in the L’Oréal Colour Trophy not only provides exposure and recognition within the industry but also opens doors to new opportunities and collaborations with top professionals. The journey to the competition required dedication, practice, and a strong passion for hairdressing.

Ultimately, earning a spot in the L’Oréal Colour Trophy is always special, and 2023 was no exception. It’s a remarkable achievement, I’m really proud.

That cut though… Talk us through your final look, what was your inspiration?

Thanks! As a hairdresser I’ve always enjoyed the classic bob, I wanted to create a modern version with a simplistic but up-to-date wow colour. I think we achieved that and created a beautiful look with a touch of a 60’s vibe.

And what did you think about Luke’s ‘Limitless’ show?

It was amazing. Luke’s passion for hair is truly inspirational.

All the looks were jaw-dropping, the creativity was really something else. I feel so lucky to have watched this show, it was such a fantastic experience to watch it live.
