Career goals at Saks

Reading Time: 4 minutes

There’s lots involved in running a hair or beauty salon and we love what our Saks salon owners do. Looking after their customers, motivating and training their teams, transforming the way their customers look and feel and running a business. We’re in awe.

All that with the help and support of our dedicated HQ team of course and plenty of fun events, conferences and unforgettable experiences along the way.

We’re lucky that many of our salon owners have been part of the Saks community for decades, some of them since day one. Many started as apprentices and now own a salon…now that’s #SAKSGOALS.

Congratulations to the following Saks salon owners who are the latest to renew their commitment, continuing their journey with Saks.

Rebecca and Paul Calladine at Saks Hair Doncaster
Andrea Currah at Saks Hair Hexham
Anna Clinton at Saks Hair & Beauty Sedbury Hall,
Sue & Jo Povey at Saks Hair & Beauty Southampton,

Andrea, owner of Saks Hexham says: “I started my journey working part-time at Saks Bishop Auckland, returning to work after having my first baby girl in 1998. I joined the team at Saks Redworth Hall and then Saks Darlington. The Hexham salon became available in early 2003, so I jumped at the chance at becoming a salon owner. It was a dream come true. It was hard work, but I was rewarded with a better lifestyle for my family. ”

Andrea continues: “I have a great circle of friends within the industry, we meet regularly to discuss and advise each other on all business issues. We always love a party and have the best time at Saks Gathering. I have many memorable moments which include winning Stylist, Salon and Fundraising Salon of the Year at the Saks Awards. The biggest highlight has to be my eldest daughter Shannon joining the team 5 years ago and is now taking the business to a higher level with our team of qualified, professional and fun stylists. Happy Days!”

Anna, owner of Saks Sedbury Hall has been with Saks since 1994 and explains: “I started as an apprentice at Saks Northallerton when I was 16. I came to Saks because I knew Lee who now owns Saks Ripon, who then worked at Saks Northallerton. He talked me into helping out for the day in the summer holidays. I loved it and never left!

“I was always ambitious and wanted to be my own boss. I wanted to be a salon owner as soon as possible. I worked 6-day weeks as often as I could as an apprentice to qualify quickly. I went to manage the Saks salon at Scotch Corner in 2000 and became a business partner shortly afterwards.

“I have lots of highlights from my time at Saks so far! I am most proud of winning the Hair and Beauty Salon of the Year Award two years running at the Saks Awards, along with Fundraising Salon of the Year for our work for The Eve Appeal.

“What makes me most proud now is watching my team achieve their goals, both in work and their personal lives, my team are my second family and I love them all.”

Jo Povey, owner of  Saks Southampton along with her mum Sue: “I joined the salon in 2010 as a receptionist whilst teaching beauty part time, I enjoyed my role and loved Saks as a brand. In 2011 I became the owner of the salon and I’ve never looked back. The business has gone from strength to strength (despite Covid!) and I’m so lucky to have the best team in the world, most of which have been with me since I took over all those years ago.

“The highlight for me so far was being a finalist in Salon of the Year at the Saks Awards a few years ago. Something we strive to achieve is bringing the best experience to our customers so this recognition was lovely. Being part of Saks network is amazing as it means there’s constant support, training and advice from highly experienced individuals. I love my salon and can’t wait to see what the next ten years brings. ”

Rebecca Calladine owns Saks Hair Doncaster with her husband Paul and tells us about their Saks story: “We chose Saks for their prestigious reputation and excellent training. We also loved Luke Pluckrose (Saks Creative Director) and were excited about working with guidance from him. We became Saks salon owners in 2010 after working at as Directors.  Since starting our Saks journey we’ve had amazing, endless support and met a community of salon owners who help eachother as we’re all on the same journey.  Ongoing support from talented people that love their job.

“My highlight at Saks so far was being invited to work in big events like London Fashion Week and Clothes Show Live and having incredible education from the Saks Artists. That’s is why we chose Saks; the extra education, the support from head office and the network and all of the events and opportunities they offer. We LOVE Saks!”
