WE WON Hair Salon of the Year!
There’s a great atmosphere in our Saks hair salon in Northallerton. It’s something that our customers comment on repeatedly. Even more so after this happened! We were named Saks Hair Salon of the Year at the Saks Awards ceremony in London in February 2019 just before our fifth birthday in May. Winning this top award is no mean feat for a relatively new salon, given the competition that comes from other Saks salons nationwide.
BRILIANT CREDENTIALS
Owner Katy Adamson was part of Saks Art Team for 15 years and played an integral part in delivering Saks’ hairdressing concept and setting standards in our salons all over the UK. Most Saks stylists in the North-East have been trained by Katy at some point! Katy has also styled backstage at shoots and worked on national Saks hair campaigns over the years.
WHAT KATY DID NEXT
In 2014, the pull of salon-life became irresistible and mum-of-two Katy jumped at the chance to open her own Saks salon. A key objective was to develop a team to epitomise Saks hairdressing and ongoing career progression plays a big part in their success today.
TALENTED TEAM
There’s a strong focus on providing a quality service and training takes place in salon every week to develop team members, share knowledge and discuss current trends. This runs in parallel with core education from L’Oréal Professionnel and the Saks Art Team. Three stylists – Becci, Jade and Alice – have completed Saks’ avant-garde A-Team training programme, which saw them being mentored by Saks Art Team in London and exploring their creativity. Attaining the L’Oréal Colour Specialist Degree is also on the agenda with team members having achieved the highest accolade in the hair industry for colour.
When asked to sum up the salon’s success, Katy says: “I’m so proud of the team and how they immerse themselves in everything we do. They’re self-motivated and full of fun – brainstorming at our meetings can get quite loud! I love their energy. “Above all, it’s a big thank you to our very loyal customers for all their support. Sounds like a cliché, I know, but we really are nothing without you!”
SALON VIBES
Front-of-house duo Ali and Shay make sure everything is taken care of for customers. From a warm welcome to great coffee, sorting umbrellas and parking cars – nothing is a problem. Behind the scenes, they make sure the team is fed and watered, important given how busy it gets on the salon floor.
“Hard graft does pay off,” says Katy. “We’re close-knit and we’re achieving amazing things together. Ultimately everything is channeled to making sure our customers walk out with gorgeous hair and ensuring they’ve thoroughly enjoyed their time with us. Bring on the next five years!”
