Saks Artist Chat: Maisie
Saks Artist and Principal Stylist at our Guisborough salon, Maisie, brings inner cowgirl energy to everything she does. From learning from the best *mum Sarah* to the importance of a full kit for fashion week, to always having a holiday booked and country music on repeat.
So Maise, what’s the most rewarding part of educating? Broadening other stylists’ skills and helping them take the next steps and thrive in their careers. Sharing tips and tricks is the best.
You LOVE hair extensions – how did it feel to become our extensions specialist, training others? SO honoured and it really means a lot as hair extensions are something stylists tend to avoid as they find it quite daunting. It’s great to share my love for them with other people.
A colour trend clients are asking for and how are you teaching it? Lived in looks – about teaching precision and placement which is so important for this look.
Your first backstage gig for Saks? London Fashion Week – two shows in one day. Unreal experience!
Something social media doesn’t show about backstage or education work? The prep that goes in behind the scenes, the buzz created by designers, models, hairdressers, and makeup artists working together. It can be a bit ‘how are we going to get these models ready in time’ and we do it every time! I don’t know how, but we do 🤣🤣
For someone wanting to go backstage, what should they focus on building eg skill, speed mindset, organisation? Be prepared. Write a packing list of tools and products, and take everything as you never know what you’ll need. Always be early so you’re not rushing and just soak up every moment!
Something about Saks that people might not realise? Saks is the best company. From people behind the scenes at head office to salon owners and teams to education and creative opportunities. We are one huge family! It doesn’t matter which salon you work in, we’re good friends and are so involved via education, events and parties – it makes it special.
One thing that you love in salon. Making people feel on top of the world. From when they come in to when they leave you can see the shift in their energy. Hair is a big thing or a small change – even just a touch-up on your roots – can make you feel miles better.

Anything about working closely with our creative leadership Luke Pluckrose and Clare Murphy that’s seen you right? They’ve opened my eyes to how they achieve the looks with so many tips and tricks along the way. And how their calmness rocks in such a chaotic fun space!
A fave thing to do outside the salon? Spending time with my partner, family and friends all the time. I can’t be alone!🤣🙈
Dream travel destination if you could go tomorrow? South African safari.
A fun fact about you? I never don’t have a holiday booked!
[ True fact. We know this already. ]
How do you unwind after a busy day in the salon? My 30min drive home listening to my favourite songs – I love country music!
Who inspires you most in any aspect of life and why? My mum (and salon owner Sarah at Saks Guisborough). She’s worked so, so hard and makes the salon a gorgeous place to work. Seeing her hard work over the years, from being a small child, inspires me. She loves hairdressing, and you can so tell.
Go-to playlist to add the vibe at work? Upbeat feel-good songs (old throwbacks and new) at work we always get complimented on our playlist, which is lovely!
What’s your go-to comfort food or ritual after a long day? Come home, something lovely for tea – I pick up a Chinese takeaway on the way home if it’s been a long day! Shower, bath and bed with a book or series.
If you could swap lives with anyone for a day, who would it be and why? Someone who lives on a ranch in Texas just to live out my inner cowgirl and spend the day around horses 🤠🐎🌾
Yeehah Maisie, Yeehah!
