In Celebration of Blonde

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Women have been blondifying their hair for hundreds of years – from lightening with lemons to caps and hooks for highlights to the hi-tech colours of today.

And with SS22 seeing Billy Eilish and Kim K maxing the platinum, and Jen and J-Lo continuing to own beachy and bronde, Saks Artists Sarah Clarke-Lees and Emily Tighe deconstruct the hues that are trending at Saks.

LEADING LIGHT

Emily, who works out of Saks Kenilworth, says: “Rebooting blonde can be a confidence booster – we know this because you tell us! Achieving a healthy hair glow for holidays at home or abroad – hair’s brighter, outlook’s brighter!”

Saks’ queen of colour Sarah says: “Love seeing the shift towards soft golds for summer and natural beiges which remove natural warmth without an ash finish. And festival season’s perfect for creative toners – peach, blush pink and blues. A fun, low commitment way for fashionistas to play.”

Emily says: “No two blondes are the same. We take in considerations such as your eyes, skin tone and working with natural colour, toners and subtle placement for different effects to achieve your desired look”.

SPOTLIGHT ON BRONDE

Previously there were brunettes and blondes and never the two would meet. Glad that’s out the window! Fusing brunette and blonde into subtle, flattering shades is a great choice for those wanting to head into the light.

Sarah says “Technically, bronde is a mixture of blonde and brunette highlights and lowlights that are distributed evenly to create a colour that contains an even mix of lighter and darker tones. Easy to blend and low maintenance due to the multi-tonal nature of the colour from ashy to soft and golden.” Now we know.

FESTIVAL KNOT

Wondering how to rock your hair for festival season? Watch as our creative director Luke Pluckrose works up an effortless section knot to get you through your big weekend – a great style to showcase the beautiful bronde here…

GOING THE DISTANCE

Emily says “Lots of my customers can’t get enough of blending for seamless, longer-lasting colour. This can include hand-painting lowlights to achieve depth which may have been lost if they’ve gone too light. Root tapping is popular for those who want to stay as light as possible, whilst stretching out appointments.”

POP IN FOR A TONER

Sarah says: “Between colour appointments a toner will keep your colour fresh and warmth at bay if needed. It removes unwanted tone and helps deposit the desired tone that is responsible for the colour you see – lasting 6-8 washes.”

DETOX AT THE BACKWASH

Depending on where you live, excess metal can build up in your hair that’s absorbed through your shower water. It’s nothing to be alarmed about and not a problem for health. But it build-up can cause a risk of breakage when colouring hair and premature fade. We counteract this by using the Metal Detox range from L’Oréal Professionnel to nutralise copper and strengthen the hair.  We’ll chat it through when you’re in.

NOURISHING MIXERS

Emily *passionate here* “Invest in good home care. If you don’t look after colour the effects will show and this can then begin to increase the attention required in-salon. My fave is Kérastase’s Resistance range – for lightweight strength and hydration.”

Emily *still passionate* “And don’t overuse ‘purple’ shampoos as they can result in dullness. I recommend a protein-based shampoo and conditioner with the occasional use of a quality toning mask – Kerastase’s Blond Absolu purple mask works wonder.” Absolu fave, Em?
