Hey Gleam Queen!

Reading Time: 4 minutes

Now’s a major moment for brunette and we’re Here For It. From deep brown to sunlight speckled, whatever you fancy, we’ll listen, consider and work up gorgeous colour to complement your skin and bring out your eyes.

This time, we asked Saks Artists Zoe Horbury (Saks Newark) and Jess Hesp (Saks Barnard Castle) along with *hello first timer* Amy, our superstar apprentice at Saks Redcar, to share on all-things sparkly and sultry.

THE ’23 REBOOT OF BRUNETTE

Jess says: “NOTHING boring about brunettes as we now have lots of exciting techniques and options for this palette. Cool or warm shades, global glossy or a real mix of depths and tones.”

Amy: “We’re seeing people wanting to move from brightness to deeper tones.True fact that blondes have lots of fun – playing with pastels for example – but there’s much to explore on the brunette scale too – love the trends for deep caramel or ashy espresso tones. and I’m always up for going bold with a violet hue or a hint of red!”

CHOCOLATE EXPLAINER

Amy: “When you ask for chocolate your stylist will work out what hue works for you. Copper brown looks great on those with green eyes and fair skin. And a deep ashy brown makes blue eyes pop!”

Jess says: “And a broken up brunette with caramel pieces into bronde can really bring out brown eyes. Cool colours compliment cool skin tones and golden colours compliment warm.”

Amy: “Miley Cyrus is currently sporting a perfect mix of blonde and brunette with an edgy touch. The panels pop perfectly and really make her eyes stand out.

FRENCH BALAYAGE, MAGNIFIQUE!

Enter Zoe: “I’m all for soft, natural balayages which are low maintenance to grow out. You can spread out your colour appointments and have more budget for all-important home-care.  We’re creating stunning colour with the Blond Studio French Balayage Pearls from L’Oréal Professionnel.”

Zoe: “Allie’s been coming to our salon since day one. Quirky and fun and not afraid of change and adding her personality to her hair. Here Abbie turned a previous stunning copper into gorgeous chocolate brown.”

FROM JETTING OUT

Amy: “For holiday hair we want simplicity while enjoying the sun. I recommend a trim and a treatment prior to jetting off to avoid sun bleached split ends. And always  make sure you’re putting spf on the scalp! Book in for L’Oréal Pro’s Metal Detox treatment on your return to gently eliminate buildup of chemicals after all those dips (or dives) in the pool.”

TO BACK TO SCHOOL

Jess: “Bronde will stay on trend into autumn, for brunettes kissed by the summer sun – great way to spice it up if your colour’s gone a bit flat. Adding chunky highlights, sections of balayage or framing the face with the correct toner to match your existing global colour will pep your step!”

Amy: “September’s a good time to get organised before Christmas craziness starts! Book in advance to avoid stressing about your seasonal hair. And give yourself time to plan gift giving or what you’re wearing, thoughout party season.”

Us: Woah Amy, killer organisation skills here.

HAIR SNIPPETS

Amy says: “The number one thing to do for your hair is book your trims every eight weeks.Whether it be a big chop or a little snip, your hair will thank you for it!”

Jess: “Getting rid of split, wispy ends leaves it looking shinier, thicker and promotes growth. Growing your hair? Going longer between cuts and you’ll have to get more cut off, as the ends will dry and split. You’ll need more off  to make it healthy again.”

CONDITION MISSION

Jess: “To keep that glossy expensive look regardless of your colour, condition is key. Regular treatments – from a nourishing masque, to a bond builder or seasonal smoothing. Your stylist will advise what’ll work best for you.”

Zoe: “In summer think Soleil from Kérastase. The shampoo gently removes chlorine, salts and sand whilst hydrating and cooling the scalp. Smells beautiful – just like holidays. Perfect in your gym bag too if you’re a swimmer all year round. And it’s all kinda sparkly. What’s not to love here!”

HOT HAIR TIP?  ZOE SAYS…

“Apply Soleil Creme UV to your hair then pull it back in a top knot or bun to protect your scalp too.”
