Haute Couture hair by Luke at PFW

Reading Time: 2 minutes

First gigs of 2020 for our creative director, Luke Pluckrose? Paris Fashion Week of course… and they were all Haute Couture daaarling. We were thrilled when Luke was asked to join the Neville hair team styling backstage for not one but three major fashion houses.

ABOUT HAUTE COUTURE

Couture = dressmaking. Haute = high. To qualify as Haute Couture, houses must design made-to-order clothes for private clients, with more than one fitting, using an atelier (workshop) that employs at least fifteen full-time staff. Haute Couture houses must present a collection of no less than 50 original designs for day and night every season. So now we know.

ANTONIO GRIMALDI

First up one of the most beloved couturiers of the new millennium. Luke says: “Hair was predominantly slick-backs with centre partings along with grown out buzz cuts and crops – all very simple, elegantly framing the faces and complimenting the stunning looks.”

JULIEN FOURNIE

Intricate plaits and braids and topknots with forehead embellishment intricately woven in.

ZIAD NAKAD

Greek mythology met couture in Ziad Nakad’s imagining of modern-day warrior princesses of Atlantis with a celebration of fierceness, ingenuity and compassion. An eclectic mix of tulle, silk, taffeta and chiffon in a myriad of hazy hues.

Luke says: “Pure wet-looks here given the underwater theme. Hair was pulled back off the face, teased into place, moulded to add height and twisted to achieve dreadlocks. ‘She came from the sea’ indeed!”
