Saks charity zip wire

Reading Time: 4 minutes

About our Saks charity zip wire and other fundraising. If you hadn’t heard… we’re raising £100,000 for The Eve Appeal to fund research into earlier detection of the five women-only cancers of the cervix, ovaries, vagina, vulva and womb.

In latest news we see another HUGE achievement on our special partnership’s timeline. Margaret Watson – daredevil salon owner of Saks Whitley Bay – wanted to do something special to mark her involvement.

Having zipped across the Tyne in September 2015 and loved that, Margaret decided to notch things up with a unifying challenge that other Saks salons could participate in… along with a couple of relatives too!

With a little help from Saks UK HQ, Margaret arranged an outing to Zip World in North Wales to take the Velocity challenge – known as ‘the longest, and fastest zip wire in Europe’. Participants hurtle head first across the disused Penryn Quarry in Bethesda near Bangor, reaching speeds of up to 120 mph!

We LOVE these faces

On Sunday 22nd May, 39 Saks people converged from 15 salons as across the UK (ah-mazing Sarah and Andrew travelling all that way to represent Saks Aberdeen), along with Saks HQ Darlington and our MD, Stephen Kee.

A slightly different ‘before and after’!

In the run up to The Big Zip Day our fabulous customers, family, friends and suppliers had been happy to give generously in the spirit of the Saks4Eve – they’d seen the videos, they got the challenge!

PRAISE INDEED

Athena Lamnosis, CEO of The Eve Appeal says: “Wow and EEEKKKK! What an amazing event for Saks UK to have organised. A team that really is up for a challenge where raising funds and awareness for women’s cancers is concerned.

“Team Eve – women affected by these cancers, our scientists, medics and volunteers – are incredibly proud of all 39 hair and beauty experts who took part in the zip wire challenge. Travelling from all over the country to take part, from as far away as Aberdeen, you’ve really shown Saks’ dedication to fighting gynae cancers. Everyone seems to have had a fantastic day, and we hope that they have been inspired to continue their efforts back in their salons. Congratulations Team Saks. Keep coming up with the wild and wonderful (and appropriately hair-raising) ideas. We can’t wait to see what’s next for Saks4Eve.”

Special mentions to Danny Jarega and Clare Davies who were both waaaaay out of their comfort zones and both completed the task with flying colours.

OTHER SPECIAL MENTIONS…

May’s fundraising didn’t stop there. A huge raffle from our three salons in Aberdeen raised over £1,700… and senior stylist Charlotte Tutchings of Saks Exeter chose to skydive 15,000 feet on her 21st birthday, raising £335 in the process – just fabulous!

Charlotte’s 21st birthday skydive has got us thinking…

Stephen Kee says: “Our SAKS4EVE fundraising just gets better and better. The way our people have committed to our chosen charity partnership is a breath of fresh air. We’re about making women look and feel special in our salons with the best of hair and beauty – SAKS4EVE takes it to another level and our people and customers really are demonstrating our commitment to our cause.

Stephen continues: “On the day it was apparent that a few were worried and hadn’t realised the enormity of the challenge – but everyone rose to it. We love a Saks get-together. And it doesn’t get any better than getting together for The Eve Appeal. There’s talk of a big SAKS4EVE skydive challenge next. Watch this space.”
