In the year our Saks Aberdeen team gears up to celebrate 15 YEARS since they opened their first of three salons in the Granite City, we couldn’t resist a celebratory roundup of the Saks people that put us on the map at our Union Square, Union Street and David Lloyd Club salons…
LANDMARK BIRTHDAYS IN 2016
June is all about 10 YEARS of Saks David Lloyd. This big birthday is made extra-special as the salon recently reopened with a very glitzy makeover.
Storm Frank hit the area back in the new year, flooding the club and surrounding area, but rain didn’t stop hair and beauty. We simply took the opportunity to give the salon a gorgeous new look, with team members taking appointments in our other Aberdeen salons… with super-supportive customers more than happy to swap locations for a short while.
In October it’s all eyes on Saks Union Street’s 15th anniversary! It seems like only yesterday when our Saks Aberdeen journey commenced waaaay back in October 2001.
Today we field a 52-strong team of hair and beauty experts across the three locations. Special mentions go out to five longstanding Saks people… James Grant for being an integral member of the Aberdeen team since day 1 and also to Michelle Arthur and Maria Carnie (David Lloyd), Lesley Smith and Lesley Mutch (Union Street) for being part of what makes Saks Aberdeen special for TEN YEARS!
We were thrilled when Shu Uemura Art of Hair welcomed the return of the Muse image awards, a prestigious creative competition open to all UK hairdressers.
The judges were bowled over by how Sarah Black (Union Square) interpreted the brief ‘East meets West to create an emblematic hairstyle with a modern Tokyo twist’ and Sarah came second in in the finals on 1st June.
There’s more. We’re super-proud of Craig Mitchell (Union Square) and Stevie-Lee Brown (Union Street) for flying the flag for Saks in the Scottish Backstage Finals of the L’Oreal Colour Trophy recently.
Saks Aberdeen salons are no strangers to winning. Over the years they’ve won countless times in the annual Saks Awards; and Saks Union Square is currently ‘Salon of the Year’.
LATEST L’ORÉAL COLOUR SPECIALIST DEGREE GRADUATES
Attaining the L’Oréal Colour Specialist Degree is the accolade in the UK hair industry for hair colouring. The Colour Specialist delves in depth into the science of colour giving knowledge on formulating desired results whilst maintaining healthy hair and we’ve got L’Oréal Colour Specialists in all three Aberdeen salons.
Huge congrats to stylists Caroline Strong (Union Square) and Lee Carnegie (that’s Zander of Union Street), for graduating as L’Oréal Colour Specialists in April 2016, joining existing Colour Specialists Craig (Union Square), James (Union Street) and Michelle (David Lloyd).
Sarah Black (Union Square) and Gemma Morrison (David Lloyd) are our latest recruits to study for this prestigious qualification.
ADVANCED BEAUTY… SCIENTIFIC SKINCARE FROM SKEYNDOR
The Saks Aberdeen beauty menu boasts everything from Elemis Biotec to 3D-lipo body contouring to IPL hair removal as well as all the everyday beauty essentials a girl will ever need.
We’re pleased to be launching Skeyndor advanced skincare treatments very soon as our therapists are currently completing vigorous training as part of the Skenydor at Saks UK launch.

FUNDRAISING… FIGHTING WOMEN’S CANCERS
Our Saks Aberdeen teams have embraced being part of our two-year national charity campaign, raising funds and awareness for women’s cancers with The Eve Appeal.
In the biggest Saks raffle EVER, Saks4Eve Aberdeen put together a haul of luxury prizes including a Michael Kors handbag, £250 worth of Kérastase goodies, Saks gift vouchers, Elemis Anti-Ageing Travel Collection, a month’s membership to David Lloyd club, a Samsung TV and more – the only thing missing being the cuddly toy!
This lot had great fun joining in with The Eve Appeal’s national Make Time For Tea event in March to mark Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month. Cue a big, Saksy bake-off with customers being treated to refreshments and nibbles galore.
This brings their big fundraising total to an amazing £3,898… so far.
