Big charity news

Salons by .

Our Saks4Eve fundraising goes BIG, BRAVE and BRILLIANT!  A huge Saks Goal is in the bag. At time of publication we’ve raised £153,000 to aid The Eve Appeal‘s research into gynaecological cancers. With more en route to Eve as we speak.

IT AIN’T WHAT YOU DO, IT’S THE WAY THAT YOU DO IT

With an unreal level of support from customers, friends and families, Saks people pout and shout. We bake da cakes. We style hair, cut fringes, plait, knot and tjuz. We paint nails, massage, nurture faces and primp. We climb, trek, plough through mud and fling ourselves out of planes and off Very High Things. All to collect funds and raise awareness.

We’re very proud to be doing our bit for our chosen charity… and we’re well on our way to £250,000.

GET LIPPY

We love a good lip and we love to GET LIPPY. For the second time we joined the campaign throughout May encouraging women – and men – to speak up and out about the signs and symptoms of women’s cancers. Saks/pouting/shouting/social media – got that!

SAKS KINGS HILL AND THE BOOTLEG BEATLES

Salon owner Claire and her husband John are BIG fans of the Bootleg Beatles. And when Claire asked them to put on a show for Eve the modern-day mop tops were more than happy to help. An intimate gig and auction at The Village Hotel in Maidstone and a whopping £2,026 contributed to our cause.

SALON OWNER NIKKI SILENCED AT SAKS CHESTER!

Saks Chester salon owner Nikki loves to chat. So the sponsored silence she undertook in the name of Saks4Eve was a big thing along with the salon’s second Tough Mudder.

Saks Chester: SECOND muddy challenge!

Nikki says: “OK, so the sponsored silence was the hardest thing I’ve ever done! Even more so than 24 hours of hairdressing! And why on earth did I decide to do it on a fully booked Saturday from 8.30-5pm. The silent consultations and helping my team members was very tricky. Thanks so much to everyone for going with it!”

SAKS BEAUTY GOSFORTH

This team is getting a name for adding quirk to our Saks4Eve fundraising every year. Therapist Kitty ran a raffle to win a great big wellness hamper by – aptly – naming the womb. Tinkerbell was our winner, by the way!

MAKE TIME FOR TEA FOR OVARIAN CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

Every year Eve holds a big campaign to mark Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month during March. This year we were represented at the official launch party at the Houses of Parliament by Andrea of Saks Hexham and Sue of Saks Sedbury Hall (both Saks4Eve Fundraising Salon of the Year winners in the annual Saks Awards).

AND A REMINDER OF HOW WE CAN HELP MAKE A DIFFERENCE

£10 – the cost for a blood sample collection kit that will help to develop one test to predict four female cancers.

£15 –  pays for info on all five gynae cancers to be sent to 10 supporters so they can hold their own awareness raising events.

£20 – for a collection kit for a cervical cell sample. This establishes whether it could be used to assess a woman’s risk of developing breast, ovarian, cervical and womb cancers.

£20 – for an hour of confidential up-to-date info and support from Eve’s gynae cancer nurse.

£250 – the cost of a genetic test for BRCA1/2 and Lynch Syndrome because this can indicate an increased risk of developing breast, ovarian or womb cancers.

£1,000 – for a dedicated weekly clinic to provide advice and support for patients who are donating samples and have been diagnosed with cancer or are at high risk of developing cancer.

£5,000 – the cost of a set of micro beads that test for specific immune cells which play a vital role in the early development of cancer.
