Clothes Show Live 2011

The Art Team were busy styling the models, dancers and presenters at Clothes Show Live in December 2011. The legendary catwalk shows take place seven times a day and a feat even bigger than the Show itself is ensuring the models remain curled, coiffed, straightened, backcombed or bouffed to perfection for each performance – no probs!

The theme was ‘Night at the Department Store’ and the job fell to Alison Dace, Creative Director, to interpret this into the dancers’ and models’ hair.  Alison chose to crimp, crimp, crimp and created larger than life volume and a texture to suggest synthetic hair and big thanks to L’Oréal Professional for supplying the amazing products needed to create this fantastic look.

6 days, 14 models, 16 dancers, 27 Saks stylists and 34 cans of hairspray; just another day at the office for the Art Team - well done to all who took part!!

Prima High Street Fashion Awards

From Catwalk to High Street, The Art Team has been busy transforming hair at the High Street Fashion Awards recently, a hive of activity with multitudes of shimmering dresses, sky-high heels, flashes of paparazzi cameras and more bling than you could shake a stick at!

Celebrity attendees included Loose Women presenter Andrea Mclean, ex Atomic Kitten star Natasha Hamilton and Oliiva and Lauren from The Only Way Is Essex. 1,200 people attended raising a staggering £18,500 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Autumn/Winter Hair Trends

Capturing the essence of Autumn/Winter and focusing on exaggerated shapes and multi-textured and mixed fabrics, amplified by fashion trends, the Art Team have created this season’s ultimate hair trends – The Streets. The vibe is to capture a moment in time – hair is natural, fresh and what you want to wear right here right now. There is a nod to texture and layers in the hair with a grown in feel and fringes are back big time, longer and full of texture and movement. Colours brighten and shimmer, the perfect antidote to grey skies.  Keep an eye out for the looks – coming soon!

A Team with Alison Dace and Luke Pluckrose

The A Team is all about creativity. It’s a time where the team can take off their salon heads and explore the wonderful world of hair, and how they can push their creative limits. The team meet monthly and are mentored by the Saks Art Team, who teach lots of new skills such as mood boarding, research and development, and building collections. The culmination of teaching is creating a show which is drawing inspiration from a day spent visiting London’s top museums and galleries. “It’s so brilliant to see the team’s creative juices flowing and watching them debate about the exhibitions” Alison Dace.

Art Team Styles Coldplay's Charlie Brown Video

It was all edgy, urban energy recently on the set of Coldplay’s Charlie Brown video.  The shoot took place in a converted church full of old school spiral rave tunnel lights and featured the band and over 150 extras.  The Saks Art Team used all of its expertise to get this party well and truly started.  “The theme was hard core rave vibe, high energy and lots of fun - the set had to feel like a really good party!” says Alison Dace.

Working with members of Saks' Fat Club and A Team (that’s Martin Mezies from Saks Bolton, Josh Marks from Saks Bristol, Samantha Griffiths from Saks Lincoln and Karl Mceller from Saks Scunthorpe), our team used a variety of neon and fluorescent gels, creams, and sprays to create different shapes and random patterns of stripes and shapes in the hair.

We also styled the lead actors, Elliot Tittensor (Shameless) and Antonia Thomas (Misfits).  Everyone was buzzing at the end of this shoot – thanks guys!

Another Fabulous Style School Event

We've been working with Style School for a few seasons now and we all really look forward to the shoots!  They're totally fashion focused and the students have a great experience.  With the hair we have total freedom to express our editorial style and a great opportunity to bring next season’s trends to the table.

This collection was themed red, white and blue and for us had a 90s American influence with the hair which we pushed to more extreme measures with the shape and textures - a good time had by all!

L’Oreal Colour Trophy, Charlie Le Mindu Show

The Art Team’s Luke Pluckrose recently worked with fashion stylist Charlie Le Mindu (most famously known for his work with Lady Gaga) at this year’s L’Oreal Colour Trophy grand final. The team presented 18 models in three new and extravagant collections. Plus the fabulous wigs they’ve created are going to be exhibited for a year at the Paris Science Museum!

The Art Team at London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week provided a fantastic opportunity for Saks to showcase their talent, working on shows with designers such as Amanda Wakeley, Danielle Scutt, Louise Gray, Bernard Chandran and Fashion Fringe as well as heading an all Saks team for designer J JS Lee. Saks Stylists assisting the Art Team were Martin Mendes (Bolton), Emma England (Norwich), Chloe Rodham (Darlington), Natalie Baker and David Henderson (Lytham), Rebecca Green (Doncaster), Ben Waines (Southampton) and Gemma Dobby (Brighton).
