70s Summer Sophisticate

70s Summer Sophisticate

MMMMmmm Summer Styling is here! Biba inspired 70s looks are hot to trot.

For hair that means big is beautiful and flicks are fabulous. If you want to get Farrah Fawcett inspired, it's time to focus on bouncy blow-drying (try our big fat curling brush), big rollers and a mist of hairspray. For colour, it's about dreamy, beach-bleached locks to capture that soft, nostalgic, camera-ready feeling.

New Simply Saks Collection

New Simply Saks Collection.

We've just finished work on the brand new Simply Saks collection. It's a set of step-by-step book and video guides to help stylists create a selection of Saks' signature styles. We've been busy previewing the collection for our own stylists around the country and we've had brilliant feedback! It won't be too long before the video and book are available to download via our on-line shop!

Because we're worth it

Three fantastic Saks teams scooped top prizes at the industry’s longest running and most fashion led national hairdressing competition earlier this month.

Hair and colour experts from Saks Great Yarmouth, Saks Lytham and Saks Glasgow all won their regions at the L’Oréal Colour Trophy at the stunning Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London, on Monday 4th July.

Over 1000 of the hairdressing industry’s most acclaimed and famous figures filled the dazzling venue with standing ovations all round as Saks won an amazing three out of the seven regional titles.

Radio 1 presenter Sara Cox hosted the event whilst acclaimed hairdresser, Richard Ward, handed the teams their trophies at the number one event in the hairdressing calendar.

A Team with Alison Dace and Luke Pluckrose

The A Team is all about creativity. It’s a time where the team can take off their salon heads and explore the wonderful world of hair, and how they can push their creative limits. The team meet monthly and are mentored by the Saks Art Team, who teach lots of new skills such as mood boarding, research and development, and building collections. The culmination of teaching is creating a show which is drawing inspiration from a day spent visiting London’s top museums and galleries. “It’s so brilliant to see the team’s creative juices flowing and watching them debate about the exhibitions” Alison Dace.

Autumn/Winter Hair Trends

Capturing the essence of Autumn/Winter and focusing on exaggerated shapes and multi-textured and mixed fabrics, amplified by fashion trends, the Art Team have created this season’s ultimate hair trends – The Streets. The vibe is to capture a moment in time – hair is natural, fresh and what you want to wear right here right now. There is a nod to texture and layers in the hair with a grown in feel and fringes are back big time, longer and full of texture and movement. Colours brighten and shimmer, the perfect antidote to grey skies.  Keep an eye out for the looks – coming soon!

Prima High Street Fashion Awards

From Catwalk to High Street, The Art Team has been busy transforming hair at the High Street Fashion Awards recently, a hive of activity with multitudes of shimmering dresses, sky-high heels, flashes of paparazzi cameras and more bling than you could shake a stick at!

Celebrity attendees included Loose Women presenter Andrea Mclean, ex Atomic Kitten star Natasha Hamilton and Oliiva and Lauren from The Only Way Is Essex. 1,200 people attended raising a staggering £18,500 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

Looking Ahead
to Autumn/Winter

Looking ahead.

Here at the Saks Art Team, we're already casting our minds forward to shape the looks that will set trends for Autumn and Winter. This year Androgenous styling is going to be massive. Think clean lines, sharp crops and boyish styling, slicked back for extra edge. We predict that come Fall, many of us will be considering 'the chop'. Exciting? Scary? However you feel about shorter styles, with a good, professional consultation to choose the right cut for you, the results are bold, statement looks and super-stylish.

Saks Art, Italian Style. .

Saks art. We've been super busy, spreading the love for Saks in Italy.

British hairdressing is acknowledged as the best in the world over in Milan, alongside Italian tailoring for clothes. We're simply the best when it comes to delivering sharp, on-trend hair styling and the Italian audiences love it!

We've done shows and seminars in Milan, Rome, Venice. You name it and the team have done it. It keeps us really close to the Europe fashionista vibe - so as well as sharing our knowledge, it helps us to shape our thinking for future collections. Bella bella!

Future Art Team Training

Future Art Team Training.

It's a real honour and privilege to be involved in the Saks Art Team - its the kind of job most hairdressers dream about. We set the direction and looks that inspire our people across the Saks Salon network. Right now, we're delivering the training that will help our next generation Art Team develop their creativity, skills and thinking to make sure that Saks continues to break the mould in creating styles with the right combination of creativity and wearability to keep us right at the top of our game.

The Art Team at London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week provided a fantastic opportunity for Saks to showcase their talent, working on shows with designers such as Amanda Wakeley, Danielle Scutt, Louise Gray, Bernard Chandran and Fashion Fringe as well as heading an all Saks team for designer J JS Lee. Saks Stylists assisting the Art Team were Martin Mendes (Bolton), Emma England (Norwich), Chloe Rodham (Darlington), Natalie Baker and David Henderson (Lytham), Rebecca Green (Doncaster), Ben Waines (Southampton) and Gemma Dobby (Brighton).

L’Oreal Colour Trophy, Charlie Le Mindu Show

The Art Team’s Luke Pluckrose recently worked with fashion stylist Charlie Le Mindu (most famously known for his work with Lady Gaga) at this year’s L’Oreal Colour Trophy grand final. The team presented 18 models in three new and extravagant collections. Plus the fabulous wigs they’ve created are going to be exhibited for a year at the Paris Science Museum!
